In July we hosted a golf day at Walmley golf club. A great time was had by all involved. It is now to be an annual event!

On 13th April, head coach of Spital tennis club, Dan John ran an open day.

The event was well attended, with a fun mix of activities including cardio tennis, doubles coaching, technical teaching as well as matchplay. Players of all ages and abilities were welcomed by the coaching team and many of them have continued on to take part in weekly sessions at Spital tennis club.

Microsports coach of the month for March is Sam Brown!

A big thanks goes to Sam, he is otherwise known as the ‘yes’ man. He has coached over a hundred different people this month across both Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield running primary school taster sessions, after school clubs, group and individual sessions.

As well as everyone that he has coached he has made life within the team a lot easier for many other coaches by going the extra mile and helping them with the preparation of equipment, warm up games and is more often than not the first person on the court and the last person off it.

Keep up the good work Sam!

To finish off the month of March, Microsports held a football birthday party at Bishop Walsh for 20 children.

They started off with three football activities in the morning, followed by lunch and a lads vs dads game in the afternoon. The day was concluded by with a penalty shoot out with the birthday girl and birthday boy taking the last penalty each.

Parents quoted ‘they have had the best birthday ever!’

Sunday 3rd February brought a big day for some of our Microsports coaches. Both Microsports directors, Paul Bayliss and Michael Hampson as well as coaches Dan John and Damien Fejkiel delivered coaching at the event run by Ethan Mason Sports.

Louis Cayer, current coach of world number 1 doubles player Jamie Murray, worked closely with the coaches to help pass on his expertise to some of the young aspiring juniors in the morning session held at the Edgbaston Priory Club.  The juniors aged between 11 and 18 years old travelled from all over the country for the day and everyone involved had a fantastic time.

The coaches then continued in to an afternoon session to work with the adult players, who ranged from coaches to social club players. Even those who had played for years and were vastly experienced still learned lots from what was said and took away knowledge to pass on to the rest of the tennis community.

Louis has worked with the British Davis Cup winning side in 2015, 28 players in the ATP top 50 and is still currently working with Jamie Murray. His knowledge was well received by all involved and everyone went away having learned something new but most importantly having had a great time!
